Frequently asked questions
What is there to see in Peso da Régua?
The main sight is the Museu do Douro, in the former Casa da Companhia Velha, devoted to the Douro Demarcated Region and port wine. By the river you find the railway station and the quay. Across the municipality there are viewpoints over the valley, such as Galafura. Half a day covers the essentials of the centre.
How do I get from Porto to Peso da Régua?

Where should I stay in Peso da Régua?
To be close to the river, the quay, the station and the Museu do Douro, look for accommodation in the town centre. If you want quiet and views over the vines, a quinta or country house in the municipality's parishes, such as Galafura, is an option. Without a car, the centre is the most practical choice.
What is Peso da Régua's connection to port wine?
In 1756 a royal charter delimited the port wine production area and created the Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro, and Régua became the region's commercial centre. Today it is the symbolic seat of the Douro Demarcated Region, and the Museu do Douro occupies the former Casa da Companhia Velha.
How many days do I need in Peso da Régua?
For the centre, with the museum, station and quay, half a day to one day is enough. If you want to add viewpoints, a quinta in the municipality and a trip on the Linha do Douro, allow two to three days. Régua is also a base for visiting Lamego and Vila Real, both in the region.
