Régua Railway Station

Régua station serves Peso da Régua on the Linha do Douro, at kilometre point 103+297. It opened on 15 July 1879 as the provisional terminus of the line and is still in service, with CP regional and inter-regional trains.

According to Wikipedia, before the railway the trip between Régua and Porto took between 6 and 8 days by boat (see the Cais da Régua); once the line arrived, the station became an important outlet for Port wine.

A junction between two lines

On 12 May 1906 the first stretch of the Linha do Corgo, between Régua and Vila Real, opened, and the station became the meeting point of two railway lines, with several roads also crossing in the town. Wikipedia describes Régua as a communications hub between the Beira and Trás-os-Montes regions. The Linha do Corgo was closed on 25 March 2009 and, according to the same source, by 2016 the narrow-gauge connection serving it had been dismantled.

Services and connections

• The station is administered by Infraestruturas de Portugal, and the trains are run by CP.
• According to Wikipedia, it has four main running tracks, and the passenger building is on the south side of the line.
• There are connections to Porto-São Bento, Porto-Campanhã and the Pinhão railway station.
• Wikipedia also lists a bus connection (line 103), ticket offices, waiting rooms, a restaurant and access for people with reduced mobility. Please confirm services and timetables locally.

Tile panel near the station

On Rua José Vasques Osório, close to the station, stands the azulejo panel A Linha do Douro by Manuel Casal Aguiar, covering 223 m². According to the municipality, it evokes people's journey along the Douro, and its proximity to the station underlines the themes of departure and arrival.
