Sabrosa Wine Cooperative

The Adega Cooperativa de Sabrosa is a wine cooperative in the village of Sabrosa, in the Cima Corgo sub-region, in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region. It was founded in 1958 by a small group of wine growers and still relies on the grapes of its members.

Its wines are sold mainly under the Fernão de Magalhães brand, a tribute to the navigator who, according to local tradition, was born in Sabrosa and organised the first voyage around the globe.

Wines and brand

The winery's website presents table wines, DOC and Reserve wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines and spirits. According to Port Wine Country, the range includes Ruby, Tawny, White and 10-year Tawny Port, DOC whites, reds and rosés, two Moscatéis do Douro and a sparkling wine. The winery says it draws inspiration from the courage, determination, tenacity and vision of Fernão de Magalhães.

Visiting

The winery is in the village of Sabrosa, which is also home to the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Port Wine Country states that visits are arranged in advance with the winery; please confirm directly before travelling. The wines can also be bought in the winery's online shop.
