Lamego Museum, housed in the former 18th-century Episcopal Palace, is one of Northern Portugal's most important regional museums. Its collection includes five 16th-century Flemish tapestries, among the most valuable in the country, and a remarkable collection of medieval sacred art from monasteries and churches across the Douro region.
Highlights include paintings by Vasco Fernandes (Grão Vasco), the greatest master of 16th-century Portuguese painting, and an archaeological section spanning the Bronze Age to the Roman period. The faience and goldsmithery collection rounds off an exceptional museum experience.
