Lamego Castle

Lamego Castle stands on the highest part of the town, at 543 metres above sea level, and has been a National Monument since 1910. The keep, square in plan and about twenty metres high, and the citadel were built in the second half of the 12th century. From the top of the walls you can see the rivers Coura, Balsemão and Varosa.

Outside the walls is the old stone cistern, about twenty metres long and ten wide with a vaulted ceiling, which reopened in November 2013 as a Memory Centre.
