Lamego Cathedral, also known as the Sé de Lamego or the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, was founded in the 12th century and has been a National Monument since 1910. It keeps its original square medieval tower, while the rest reflects works of the 16th and 18th centuries, with a predominantly Gothic style and a Renaissance cloister of about a dozen arches.
Next door, the former Episcopal Palace now houses the Lamego Museum, home to the panels that Vasco Fernandes (Grão Vasco) painted between 1506 and 1511 for the cathedral's high chapel.
