Penafiel River Beaches

Penafiel's bathing areas are on the river Tâmega — not on the Douro, as is sometimes written. The two best known are Boelhe and Luzim. Boelhe, on the right bank, is the busiest and corresponds to the Boelhe River Park, also called Parque das Famílias, with a leisure area beside the water. Penafiel sits where the Sousa Valley meets the Lower Tâmega, half an hour from Porto and at the gateway to the Douro region.
