Boa Vista Viewpoint

The Miradouro da Boa Vista is in Avões, in the municipality of Lamego, on the Serra das Meadas at roughly 860 metres of altitude. According to the DareYou Spot portal it is managed by the Municipality of Lamego, and it opens a view over the Douro valley and the river's north-facing slope.

A note on location: although it appears linked to Mesão Frio, every source consulted places this viewpoint in Avões, Lamego. The viewpoint route of the Mesão Frio municipality lists six other points and does not mention Boa Vista.

What you can see

Descriptions speak of a landscape of villages, vines in several planting styles, the Douro and its valley, pine woods and olive groves. From here you can make out Vila Real and the Serra do Alvão and, according to ViaMichelin, the Serra do Marão. The blog Miradouros Durienses adds that two other landmark viewpoints, São Domingos (Armamar) and São Leonardo (Peso da Régua), can be seen, and ViaMichelin mentions the white houses of Régua beside the river. The same blog notes schist formations underlying the landscape.

Getting there

According to Miradouros Durienses, you take the national road out of Lamego and then a municipal road to the viewpoint. Another source describes it as lying on the road between Barrô and Lamego. The sources disagree on the road number, so we do not give one.

In Lamego, DareYou Spot lists the Castelo de Lamego, the Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios and the Museu de Lamego as nearby sights. In Mesão Frio, the viewpoint route brings together six points: Barqueiros, Donsumil, Imaginário, Senhora da Piedade, São Silvestre and the Santa Cristina tower.
