Varanda para o Douro (Folgosa)

The Varanda para o Douro ("balcony over the Douro") is a viewpoint on the EN 222 road in Folgosa, parish of Folgosa, municipality of Armamar, opening onto the Douro valley.

From here you see the river at the bottom of the valley and the vineyard slopes on either side, the terraced landscape that has become the trademark of the Douro wine region. Folgosa lies on the left bank and is the northernmost parish of the municipality; the surrounding estates grow grapes for Port and Douro wines.

The EN 222 is also the road where the municipality signposts the Passeadouro da Folgosa, a panoramic pedestrian stretch of about 1 km beside the Douro, meant for walking, fishing and outdoor sport. The viewpoint is about 5 km in a straight line from the centre of Armamar and can be reached by car along the EN 222. It makes a good short stop for photographs of the valley.
