Cinfães Bathing Areas

Cinfães does not have a single river beach: the municipality lists several bathing areas along the Douro and on the rivers and streams inland. This page therefore describes the group rather than one spot; on the map we use the Cais de Escamarão, on the Douro, as a reference point.

In July 2025, regional media reported favourable water analyses, with all the areas tested considered suitable for bathing. The reports are published by the Câmara Municipal de Cinfães. See also the municipality page for Cinfães.

The areas identified by the municipality

• Cais de Escamarão (Souselo): on the left bank of the Douro, beside the Church of Nossa Senhora da Natividade, part of the Rota do Românico. Nearby are a bar with terrace, a regional products shop, a picnic area and a path for walking, running or cycling.
• Parque Fluvial do Km 10 (Travanca): beside the Paiva river, with tables, movable benches, a bar, a terrace and a tree-climbing course with suspended bridges between trees.
• Zona de Lazer da Granja (Espadanedo), on the Douro.
• Parque do Ribeiro (Gralheira), Ribeiro Sampaio (São Cristóvão), Cinco Rodas and Parque de Pias (Bestança river) and Ponte da Balsa (Nespereira).

According to an interview published by Viseu Now, the leisure area lies on the left bank of the Douro, about 20 km from the centre of Cinfães, covers 4,000 m² and has a sandy area, picnic tables, two restrooms with showers and the Granja Bar. Facilities operate from June to September and there is no lifeguard on duty. The site was once a stopping point for rabelo boats carrying local produce. It is reached by the municipal road CM 1002, from the EN222.
