Côa Valley Archaeological Park

The Côa Valley Archaeological Park protects the largest known open-air display of Palaeolithic art — hundreds of engraved rock faces along the valley of the Côa, near where it joins the Douro. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, in a listing shared with Siega Verde on the Spanish side. The engravings can only be seen on guided visits, booked in advance, and the low light of late afternoon reveals them best. The museum is in Vila Nova de Foz Côa.
