The Capela de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is in Balteiro, a hamlet of the parish of Fontelo, Armamar municipality, right by the EM 313 municipal road.
Fontelo was a municipal seat between 1514 and 1835 and a commandery of the Order of Malta. The parish history mentions, among its religious heritage, a chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, described as bearing a coat of arms and among the oldest in the diocese, where the dead from the opposite bank of the Douro were buried. With the sources consulted we cannot confirm that it is this building in Balteiro, so that story is not attributed to it. There is also no reliable data on when this chapel was built.
Balteiro lies about 3.6 km in a straight line north-west of the centre of Armamar, in an area of vines and orchards above the Douro valley. The chapel is easily seen from the road, making it a simple stop for anyone travelling between Fontelo and Armamar. No opening hours are published.
