The Capela de Nossa Senhora da Guia stands near Aldeia de Cima, in the parish of Armamar, Armamar municipality, on the Caminho da Senhora da Guia, between the villages of Aldeias and Tões.
According to the parish history, it was built following an old vow by the people of Aldeias and Tões. References from 1606 say it was in ruins, and it was rebuilt in 1676 by the same villages, at the initiative of Manuel Cardoso Leitão and his wife, Serafina Teixeira de Lucena, the same couple who had the chapel of Nossa Senhora das Neves built in Travanca. Tradition places the original settlement of Tões near the site, and the cult of Senhora da Guia is said to have arisen from an old temple of Santa Maria at the place called Cortinhas. The pilgrimage, on Easter Monday, has always drawn large crowds.
It lies about 1.6 km in a straight line west of the centre of Armamar, making it one of the chapels closest to the town. No opening hours are published; the best time to see it is during the pilgrimage.
