Festa em Honra de Nossa Senhora das Neves 2026 — Calvário

Calvário, in the parish of Sandim, Vila Nova de Gaia, hosts one of the most emblematic popular festivals of the area through August 5th: the Festa em Honra de Nossa Senhora das Neves (Feast of Our Lady of the Snows). Organised by Gaia Municipal Council, the celebration blends religious devotion, tradition and live music across several days.

The programme includes a candlelight procession and solemn mass in honour of the patron saint, folk group performances, and concerts by Portuguese artists Matay (August 1) and Maria Leal (August 4), alongside sets from Hi-Fi and R.A.W. The festival closes with a fireworks display over Calvário in the early hours between August 4 and 5.

It is worth attending for an authentic taste of Douro/Gaia popular tradition alongside local residents, with free admission to every activity. It is a fine example of how patron-saint festivities remain the heartbeat of community life in the Douro riverside parishes.
