FACES OF DEMOCRACY without CENSORSHIP — 20 September 2026, MACC Baião.

Painting Exhibition by Mafalda Rocha Opening: 20 September 2026 at 16h00, with the presence of the Secretary of State for Culture, Alberto Santos. FACES OF DEMOCRACY without CENSORSHIP is an exhibition by Mafalda Rocha that revisits the memory of resistance to dictatorship and the achievement of freedom in Portugal, giving a face to the men and women who confronted censorship, repression and silencing. Drawing on documents, censored texts and portraits, the artist reflects on freedom, justice, equality and civic responsibility, with particular attention to the invisibility of women in the struggle against the Estado Novo. Comprising 51 works in different sizes, the series transforms memory into presence and tribute into reflection, reminding us that many of the rights we take for granted today were won by those who had the courage to resist. Where the regime imposed silence, art imposes presence. The exhibition FACES OF DEMOCRACY without CENSORSHIP will be on display at MACC – Mosteiro de Ancede Centro Cultural, in Baião, and can be visited until 15 November 2026.
