Quinta do Vesúvio

Quinta do Vesúvio, on the southern bank of the Douro in the Douro Superior, São João da Pesqueira municipality, is one of the most legendary and isolated estates in all of Portugal's wine country. Owned by the Symington family since 1989 — the same family behind Graham's, Dow's, Warre's and other great Port Wine brands — the estate covers 325 hectares, of which 134 are under vine, in one of the Douro Superior's most dramatic landscapes.

The Estate and Its Grandeur

Quinta do Vesúvio was founded by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira in 1827. Its neoclassical palace, historic stone winery and granite lagares where foot-treading still takes place today are testaments to the estate's agricultural and heritage grandeur. The vineyard, surrounded by mountains and the river, forms a natural amphitheatre of unique proportions in the Douro Superior.

Quinta do Vesúvio is one of the few Vintage Ports with a single quinta designation (Single Quinta Vintage Port): produced only in declared years, it is considered one of the world's most collectible Vintage Ports with exceptional ageing potential.
