14th Traditional Grape Treading Festival — Celeirós do Douro

The 14th edition of the Lagarada Tradicional (traditional grape-treading festival) takes place in Celeirós do Douro, in the municipality of Sabrosa, on September 19 and 20, 2026. The event recreates the atmosphere of the old Douro wine presses, where grapes were trodden by foot to the sound of concertina music and traditional Douro work songs — a ritual passed down through generations of grape harvesters. Throughout the weekend, visitors can watch and take part in the traditional treading, sample regional wines and snacks, and get a close look at the artisanal processes behind Port wine and Douro DOC wines. Organized by the Sabrosa municipal council with local producers, it offers an authentic way to experience Douro wine culture during peak harvest season, in a village officially classified as an Aldeia Vinhateira (wine village). Admission is free for all activities.
