Miranda do Douro City & Santa Bárbara Festival 2026

From August 21 to 23, 2026, Miranda do Douro celebrates its City and Santa Bárbara Festival, one of the highlights of the cultural and religious calendar in the far northeastern Douro. For three days the town — perched on cliffs above the Douro river on the border with Spain — fills with music, dance, Mirandese traditions and local gastronomy, including the famous Pauliteiros de Miranda stick dancers, traditional costumes and posta mirandesa steak. Organized by the Miranda do Douro municipal council, the programme features brass band performances, street entertainment and a regional products market. It is an excellent opportunity to experience Mirandese culture, recognised for its own language (Mirandês, Portugal's second official language) and the unique landscape of the Douro International Natural Park. Most activities are free to attend.
