XV Medieval de Rio Tinto 2026

Quinta das Freiras, in Rio Tinto (Gondomar), turns into a medieval scene from September 16 to 20, 2026, for the 15th edition of Medieval de Rio Tinto, one of the largest historical reenactments in the Greater Porto area. Organised by the Rio Tinto Parish Council, the event evokes the 10th century and the battle that gave the parish its name, built around the historical figure of Infanta Dona Mafalda.

Over five days, the grounds fill with craft markets, taverns, jousting tournaments, fire shows, street theatre, live music and entertainment for all ages, with hundreds of costumed performers recreating everyday medieval life. Having drawn tens of thousands of visitors in past editions, the event is a fixture of Gondomar's cultural calendar and a great opportunity for anyone visiting the Douro and Greater Porto region to enjoy a family-friendly historical immersion.
