The Arrábida Bridge, inaugurated in 1963, was for years the longest concrete arch bridge in the world. Its single 270-metre span arch is a landmark work of engineering, designed by engineer Edgar Cardoso. The view from the banks of the Douro over the elegant curve of the bridge is of singular architectural beauty.
