About the Event
On 13 August 2026, the Ancede Leisure Area in Baião hosts the 14th Baião Emigrants' County Gathering (XIV Encontro Concelhio de Emigrantes Baionenses), a municipal initiative created to strengthen the bond between Baião-born emigrants and their home county on the banks of the Douro river.
The day opens with a Thanksgiving Mass to Our Lady of Fátima, followed by a welcome reception and a communal lunch bringing together families and former emigrants travelling in from across Europe and beyond. In the afternoon, an information stand staffed by municipal services covers topics such as urban planning, professional reintegration, pet adoption and local business associations, and the day closes with a live performance by local group Lusirritmo.
Participation is free, but registration is required by 10 August, either by phone, email or in person at the municipality's Emigrant Support Office.
Beyond its cultural value, this gathering is a defining moment for Douro identity — a chance for those who left to reconnect with the terraced vineyard landscape, the local flavours and the community bonds that span generations.
