The Tua Walking Festival returns to Carrazeda de Ansiães on September 19-20, 2026, part of a five-weekend circuit spanning the municipalities of the Tua Valley — Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Mirandela, Murça and Vila Flor. Centred on Pombal de Ansiães, this non-competitive walking festival invites hikers of all ages to explore the landscapes where the Tua river meets the Douro.
On Saturday at 1:30pm, a gentler 4km walk leads to the old São Lourenço thermal springs, rounded off with water activities such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. Sunday, from 8am, brings the festival's main challenge: the PR1 – Trilho de São Lourenço, a roughly 12km circular route crossing terraced vineyards, rural tracks and riverside stretches of the Douro, finishing with a shared lunch at the Vilarinho da Castanheira parish hall.
Beyond the physical challenge, the festival highlights local culture and traditions, offering a close-up view of the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscape. Registration costs between €8.75 and €25 depending on age and residency, with sign-ups open until August 31, 2026.
