About the Event
From September 30 to October 3, 2026, Baião hosts the third edition of JUVE — Children's & Youth Film and Literature Festival, blending cinema and books in a programme designed for children, young people and families. This edition pays tribute to actor Joaquim de Almeida, celebrated for his international career in Portuguese cinema, with actress Mariana Monteiro serving as the festival's godmother.
The programme includes a retrospective dedicated to director Cláudio Jordão, a screening of a restored version of "Persepolis", the world premiere of "Além do Horizonte — A Travessia" by Fernando Vendrell (with the director in attendance), a reading of an unpublished short story by writer Joana Pais de Brito, and an original short film produced by students from three school clusters in partnership with musician Noiserv and the Coletivo Casota collective. Educational sessions with RTP Zig Zag for primary-school pupils round out the programme.
Sessions open to the general public are free of charge, subject to prior reservation — a great opportunity for families visiting the Douro to discover a film and literature festival genuinely built around a young audience.
