Roast Lamb and Oven Rice Festival 2026 — Baião

Baião celebrates its culinary identity with the return of the Roast Lamb and Oven Rice Festival, which reaches its 20th edition in 2026 with a notable change: the event moves from the height of summer to late October, running from the 23rd to the 25th, as part of an effort to promote local gastronomy outside the peak tourist season.

Set up at Feira do Tijelinho, in the town centre, the festival brings together local restaurants that prepare, in wood-fired ovens and traditional clay pots, the two dishes that give the event its name: oven-roasted lamb and baked rice, paired with the region's own Avesso wine. Over three days, the programme includes live music, street entertainment, local crafts and activities for all ages, all set around the town's municipal square.

More than a food fair, the municipality presents the event as a statement of identity and hospitality, bringing together producers, restaurateurs and visitors for one of the highlights of Baião's autumn calendar. Entry to the fairground is free, with food and drink paid directly to the stallholders.
